Meet the Team

Mohamed has a B.Sc. in electrical power engineering (2005) and a M.Sc. In renewable energy systems from the Technical University in Berlin. He has several years of experience in engineering, design, installation and commissioning, and over ten years of experience in renewable energies. Mohamed joined BayWa r.e. in 2018, where he is in charge of the development, management and execution of large scale solar as well as hybrid projects across several regions, currently focusing on Africa and the Middle East.

After graduating in Environmental Engineering in 2009, Laura started her career in international development work with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Kenya. She has accumulated several years of experience in project management in Africa. Before joining BayWa r.e. Solar Projects in November 2017, she worked for six years on innovative sanitation and waste management Solutions for Sanergy Ltd in Nairobi.

Within BayWa r.e. Solar Projects, her focus as a Project Manager is on exploring and developing new markets and business opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

After completing his master’s degree in Renewable Energy Engineering and Management at the University of Freiburg in 2018, Zaid started his career at BayWa r.e. with a focus on large-scale PV and hybrid power projects in in Africa and the Middle East. In his current role, Zaid is responsible for project development and management of large-scale PV and hybrid projects, with a primary focus on commercial and industrial corporate off-takers and green hydrogen producers in Morocco and South Africa.

While pursuing his master's studies, Zaid provided technical support to several large-scale PV projects and evaluated the techno-economic viability of large-scale battery storage systems for integrating solar energy into weak electricity grids, with a case study in Zambia, as part of his work-study program at BayWa r.e. Prior to that, Zaid worked in the power products division of ABB Jordan, where he developed technical and commercial proposals for customers' system requirements and managed the sales purchase order process.

Leonard joined BayWa r.e. in 2022 and focuses on project finance and sales as well as commercial structuring of renewable energy projects in Africa. Prior to BayWa r.e., Leonard was a senior consultant in the transaction advisory and strategy divisions of Ernst & Young and EY-Parthenon respectively in Germany, where he worked on corporate finance transactions in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors in Europe and globally. Leonard is an Associate Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Investment from Durham University Business School, UK. He is currently enrolled as a CFA level III candidate.
